English Cocker Spaniel

Spaniel, not surprisingly means "dog of Spain". They are hunting / retrieving / gun dogs.

Dating back to the 1300's in Spain. Cockers are featured on and in many famous paintings and literature.

Generally used as flushing dogs for wood pigeons, as they are excellent in thick undergrowth.

American Cocker Club was founded in 1881.

Cocker Spaniel was recognised by the Kennel Club of G.B. in 1892, as a separate breed from Springer Spaniels.

Cocker Club of England formed in 1902.

Accepted as a separate breed in Canada in 1940.

Accepted as a separate breed in U.S.A. in 1947.

2003. First non U.K. Cocker Spaniel wins a C.C. at Crufts International Dogshow in U.K. Midnight Train vom Rauhen Holz from A-Ones Kennel in Sweden.
