Cockers are featured on and in many famous paintings and literature. Generally used as flushing dogs for wood pigeons, as they are excellent in thick undergrowth. American Cocker Club was founded in 1881. Cocker Spaniel was recognised by the Kennel Club of G.B. in 1892, as a separate breed from Springer Spaniels. Cocker Club of England formed in 1902. Accepted as a separate breed in Canada in 1940. Accepted as a separate breed in U.S.A. in 1947. 2003.
